12.05.17 at THE GREEN a date to remember!

On this day the 12th of May 2017 Wembdon Village Hall was officially handed over to The Trustees by the builders Harris Brothers and Collard. There now follows a period of Commissioning which commenced on the morning of May 12th with practical training for the hall committee members in the use of things like the heating, alarm and CCTV systems. Gradually over the next few weeks furniture etc will be moved in and the whole facility will become operational.

Finalwork on the out side areas is still taking place mainly related to the Rhynes and landscaping. The car park is available for usefor Cricket Matches, deliveries and visitors but access is still in control of the contractor for Health and Safety and Insurance reasons.

The Sunshiners outside area is almost complete offering a large, safe space to explore and learn through play. Their wing is designed and fitted to thevery highest standard,  giving a large bright area with views from the large windows, mini sized toilet facilities in rainbow colours and an office for the staff to work in. All being well they are planning to move to the new setting after the May half term but they will obviously keep parents informed.

See you all soon!

May Update

We are fast approaching completion, there will follow a short period for the Trustees, Sunshiners and Cricket Club to move in.

The Sunshiners will be required to fulfil the requirements of an OFSTED inspection prior to opening. The Cricket Club will be able to fully use the sports facilities.

The Hall Management Team (all volunteers) will take over the running of the hall while the trustees will become an overseeing body. Local residents will be welcome to apply to join the management team. Private bookings are going well. Please use our online booking form as a first expression of interest.

Organisers of weekly groups or classes have been invited to view the premises and we will soon be able to invite you to take part in a wide range of activities during the day and evening, fitness, fun and friendships. The sports facilities are being well used for cricket junior football and rounders, The Wembdon LadiesRounders team has returned to the village, started in Wembdon30 years ago then playing at St George's school they have been at Haygrove in more recent years. Welcome back Ladies.

The Trusteeswill be extremely pleased to welcome everyone in the local community to look round the Village Hall and facilities in the next few weeks and enjoy it for many years to come.

April Update

April update,  5 weeks to completion.

The start of the month has brought glorious sunshine, a white picket fence and hours of ground works, mowing the pitches to perfection, creating the new link path from the park to the front door, landscaping Sunshiners play area and clearing the carpark. All areas of the build are now in the final stages withmultiple contractors working in various areas.

Inside the building flooring is being laid, cloakrooms are being fitted out, the kitchen is about to be fitted as is the suspended ceiling, acoustic screen and sprung wooden floor, the heating systems are being tested and there is an air of calm concentration with everyone focused on the task.

I have been asked about windows as they all appear boarded up, facing The Green you are looking at electric security shutters, facing the NDR windows and doors are boarded for security, all windows and doors are in place. In fact the internal blinds have just been ordered.

All private hirers for weddings, parties etc have now been contacted to complete the hire agreements. Those who have expressed an interest in running clubs, groups etc are being contacted with details of our open days.

If you would like to book a private event or run a group please use the Online Booking Form on this site to indicate your expression of interest we can then contact you to discuss further.

Looking forward to seeing you all at The Green sometime soon.

We are contacting group leaders who have expressed an interest in running regular groups. We would particularly like to hear from leaders of baby and toddler activity groups. We hope to provide a variety of clubs, groups etc. to suit all ages and a wide range of interests.

Update February 2017

Update February 2017

Progress update February 2017.

The road entrance off the NDR is complete and the Church Road vehicle entrance is now locked. The Trust would like to take this opportunity to thank all residents, Parish Centre and Church users, local businesses and The Parish Council for cooperating and negotiating with us during the protracted construction phase.

The building is due to be handed over in May 2017.

Bookings are being taken from June 1st 2017.

The official opening events will be on July 1st and 2nd.  More info will be published soon.

During May we will be contacting all those groups who have expressed an interest in using the hall and facilities.

New applicants wishing to book regular clubs, groups or classes are also welcome to attend. Dates and times for this will be published in mid March on our web site The Green at Wembdon.

Private functions already booked will receive booking forms in early March.

The hall, car park and playing fields will be used fully for the annual WCA Village Day in August; the Flower Show will remain at the Parish Centre in keeping with tradition.

The Trustees will continue to have legal responsibility for the building and land. A hall committee will be formed and will be responsible for the day to day running. All posts will be voluntary. If you are interested in joining the village hall committee to help in anyway, please contact us via the web site or 07594299533.

The Trustees are in the process of applying for a premises licence to allow the sale of alcohol, playing of music, showing of films etc to take place at the premises.

The Trust will be the licence holders. Wembdon Cricket Club will staff the bar and The Trustees have appointed a legally qualified person as the Designated Person Responsible. The application for the Premises Licence will show a request for a broad scope of licensable hours for all licensable activities. We have been advised by the Sedgemoor Licensing Officer that it is practical and the norm to apply in this manner to enable flexibility; if the application is too prescriptive we would need to apply for an event licence every time we varied the hours. Unless it is a private function (wedding, party) local residents will be welcome to use the bar and participate in the social activity.

Our application also includes the policies and preventions we will adopt to conform with the Crime Commissioner’s goals to minimise crime and public disorder and protect all members of the public and property.

Wembdon Football Club Play First Match On New Pitches

Wembdon Football Club Play First Match On New Pitches

After 7 years of working with the WVH&PFT, Wembdon Junior FC, finally played their first game at their new home.

Wembdon Dragons U15 welcomed Cullompton from Devon on a balmy late summers afternoon.  In an evenly contested game Cullompton eventually ran out 4-3 winners, but not before Dan Saleh of Wembdon scored the first ever goal at the facility.

It was great to see over 80 people watching the game and I am sure in time, the pitches will be the talk of Somerset.  An army of people helped ensure that the game went ahead today, filling a number of holes on the pitch with sand.  It was credit to them all, that made the pitch playable today.

Wembdon Cricket Club Play First Cricket Match On New Pitches

Wembdon Cricket Club Play First Cricket Match On New Pitches

Wembdon cricket club today held their first cricket match on the second cricket pitch.

The sun was shining over Wembdon today as Wembdon CC held the inaugural fixture on the nursery ground saw an intra club pre season friendly with Wembdon 3rdXI playing the 4thXI.

The first ball bowled was by Harry Young for the 4thXI which claimed the wicket of club stalwart Steve Pigden as he feathered an edge to the wicket keeper. The first ever 50 went to Aaron Hold as did the first ever 6. The3rdXI made 230 from their 40 overs. An innings that attracted many local residents and dog walkers who all said how great it was to see the fields being used.

The 3rd & 4th teams will be playing all of their home games on the pitch.

For information when the teams will be playing on the new pitch refer to the Wembdon CC website for fixture information - http://wembdon.play-cricket.com/website/web_pages/165279
